Covenants of Promises (GL15)

  'Appreciating God's Love'

A) Covenant with Hebrews
Gen 17:7-8  And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you. Also I give to you and your descendants after you the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and I will be their God."
God made this everlasting covenant with Abraham for his descendants of their everlasting possession of Canaan land. The only requirement was that every Hebrew child was to be circumcized on the eight day and He will be their God. Since then all descendants of Abraham were circumcized.
The Hebrews were allowed to eat all animals except blood, for God knew that when He sent them into Egypt as slaves, they had to eat whatever food was available.
Gen 17:10  This is My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: Every male child among you shall be circumcised;"

Covenant with Israelites
Exo 12:21-24  Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel and said to them, "Pick out and take lambs for yourselves according to your families, and kill the Passover lamb. And you shall take a bunch of hyssop, dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood that is in the basin. And none of you shall go out of the door of his house until morning.
After God used Moses to perform the nine plagues, and this final tenth plague to set the Israelites free from the bondages in Egypt, God made this everlasting covenant with them to keep this Passover feast yearly in addition to the circumcision with Abraham.
All Israelites, who believed God by sacrificing the Passover lamb and used its blood for the door lintel and posts, will be saved from the destroyer. The first born of every unbeliever was killed that night.

Similarly, everyone who believes the gospel and Jesus as the Lamb of God for the propitiation of their sin will be saved

B) Miraculous Provisions
Exo 16:3-4  And the children of Israel said to them, "Oh, that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and when we ate bread to the full! For you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger." Then the Lord said to Moses, "Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you. And the people shall go out and gather a certain quota every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in My law or not."
After the Israelites were delivered from Egypt, and having seen His mighty signs and wonders, seen the parting of the Red Sea and the complete annihilation of the powerful Egyptian army, yet when tested with hunger, their unbelief were revealed.
God provided them with Manna from heaven. And again when they were without water they almost stoned Moses and this time God gave them water from the rock.
Exo 17:3-4  And the people thirsted there for water, and the people complained against Moses, and said, "Why is it you have brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?" So Moses cried out to the Lord, saying, "What shall I do with this people? They are almost ready to stone me!"

Strengthening Weaknesses
Deu 7:17-19  "If you should say in your heart, 'These nations are greater than I; how can I dispossess them?'— you shall not be afraid of them, but you shall remember well what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt: the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs and the wonders, the mighty hand and the outstretched arm, by which the Lord your God brought you out. So shall the Lord your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid.
God knew man's weaknesses, so before He sent the Israelites to possess Canaan land, they would always see God's provision of manna from heaven and water coming out of the rock, which followed them.

C) Mosaic Law in Black and White
Deu 4:1-2  "Now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the judgments which I teach you to observe, that you may live, and go in and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers is giving you. You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you."
God knew the wickedness of man when guided by their conscience. He ensured that His Covenant with the Israelites, concerning their deliverance from Egypt, possession of Canaan land and that they were His people and He was their God were clearly written out in black and white. God, Himself, wrote the Ten Commandments on stone tablets.
The Israelites memorized the Torah (Pentatuech of Moses) and they also ensured that their children memorise them.
Deu 6:6-7  "And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up."
